Here in the Omaha Metro Area, we recently had a surprise hail storm that struck parts of town. Realizing that homeowners effected by the storm would have a serious need for the construction and remodeling services that his company offers, Ryan Chappelear, owner of RC Remodeling contacted me for help with a project. Shortly after the storm, Ryan planned to canvas the areas of Omaha most effected by the storm with a simple marketing piece that communicated to homeowners on a personal level, informed them about the services he has to offer and urged them to contact the company for repairs to their home.
The project needed to be completed quickly, so copy was written and the flyer was designed, printed and delivered to Ryan within a few days. At the end of the following week, I learned that this simple marketing piece has been a huge success for RC Remodeling. By the end of the week following the storm, Ryan had 10 new roofing jobs as well as some deck repairs resulting directly from using the flyer. Just goes to show you that while timing definitely plays a role in your marketing decisions, marketing using print design components can still be extremely effective in meeting – or exceeding – your goals.

In February, I worked with Erik Totten, publisher of Omaha’s Food & Spirits Magazine on the design of their 13th issue. For going on five years, FSM has provided Omahans with some of the best food, spirits and industry-related articles, and this 13th issue is no different. All articles are contributed by local experts while photographers serve up juicy photography. For the latest on Omaha’s growing food & spirits scene, pick up a copy for yourself the next time you’re dining out.
In December 2012, I had the opportunity to work with Omaha Marine Center on the design their 32-page, full color annual sales catalog. Local, family owned and operated for over 30 years, OMC was recently selected as one of the “Top 100 Boat Dealers in America” for the eighth year in a row. They are also recipients of numerous “Best of Omaha” awards.
OMC’s annual Boat Buyer’s Guide is one way OMC provides customers with detailed information on their inventory of new and used boats and additional information on other services, which include boat upgrades/accessories, maintenance, docks and boat lifts. If you’re in the market for a boat or boating accessories, make sure you stop by their showroom on 96th & L Street in Omaha, or visit them online at www.omahamarinecenter.com for more information.
Scott Creative recently worked with Food & Spirits Magazine to wrap up the magazine’s 11th issue. Putting together a magazine may seem like a daunting task considering all the preparation, planning and attention to detail that’s involved, but working with FSM has always been a rewarding experience.
The challenges of magazine layout are numerous: working within the restraints of a final page count, collecting editorial and photos, making image and text work together to create interesting page layouts – just to name a few. In the end though, it’s tough to beat the smell of a freshly pressed magazine – not to mention the pride all those involved in the process feel after seeing it for the first time.
I’m proud of this most recent issue of FSM and it has plenty to offer readers. Aside from a healthy dose of local food, spirits and industry-related news, readers will find several interesting articles covering a wide range of topics. Look for your free copy at your favorite bar or restaurant in the Omaha Metro area this April.
In mid-August 2011, Scott Creative was contacted by Hustad Companies, Inc. for assistance with a billboard design. Hustad, a residential roofing and siding company serving the Omaha Metro Area (as well as the Twin Cities, Hudson and Madison, Wisconsin) was seeking to advertise to the thousands of individuals in the Omaha Metro and Council Bluffs areas whose homes were recently damaged in a torrential hail storm.
As this recent storm afforded Hustad a very short window of time to take advantage of an advertising opportunity, a billboard design needed to be drafted, approved and then delivered for printing & production by Lamar within a very short time frame. Completed within a day or receiving Hustad’s request, it’s a great example of Scott Creative’s capability to work quickly on behalf of our clients, even when given such a short time frame to finish a project.
The billboard will appear in several locations in Council Bluffs, Iowa, starting in late August of 2011.
